Eddie Echidna
By Tay Phillips
Eddie is an echidna.
The smell of insects scented the meadow.
Eddie sensed ants that festinated in a den at his left.
“Ehh,” Eddie said with bent elbows. Eddie never fretted.
Then Eddie swept the embankment with a deft outstretched leg.
Eddie ingested some ants.
Eddie only said, “Ehh,” as he watched the rest of the edible pests escape.
When Eddie was ready, he bent his head across the crest of the cleft and feasted, some more.
Then Eddie said, “Ehh,” as the tenants spread from the den.
Again, only when Eddie was ready, he stretched out his tongue. He fed on the ants along the central spread.
Next, Eddie extended his neck and swept up ants from the lowest edge.
Eddie Echidna left the mess well fed, yet he expressed one final, “Ehh.”
You just traced the letter, “E,” and now you know the sound of short vowel “E”!
